In der Serie The Birds I bevölkert Rothschild Szenenbilder aus Hitchcocks Film mit Heilig-Geist-Tauben aus der Kunstgeschichte, mit höchst sinistrem Ergebnis. Aus Beichtgittern baut er Geschicklichkeitsspiele; es gilt das Unmögliche zu versuchen, und auf jedem Kreuz eine von unzähligen Kugeln zu platzieren. Selbst den Urknall stellt er aus Symbolen und Zeichen aus Comicstrips auf bemalter Leinwand nach - am Anfang war das Wort Erfrischend respektlos eignet sich Rothschild kunsthistorische Ikonen an, befreit sie von Status und Rolle und setzt dabei auf die subversive Kraft des Lachens.
