Die Arbeit zeigt im Zuge der jüngeren Forschung, dass Isidor von Sevilla, Beda Venerabilis oder Alcuin überaus wichtige Vermittler des antiken kosmologischen Wissens für die moderne Welt waren und dass christliche Autoren nachhaltige und bis heute relevante Beiträge auf wissenschaftlichem Gebiet geleistet haben. Eines dieser Gebiete ist die Komputistik, ursprünglich die Berechnung des exakten Ostertermins, im weiteren Sinne die Berechnung der Zeit. Die spirituelle Prägung mittelalterlicher Wissenschaft ist außerordentlich fruchtbar für den Vergleich von Wissenschaft und Kunst auf dem Hintergrund der Hauptaussagen des christlichen Glaubens. Dieses Arbeit beschreibt erstmals systematisch die Bedeutung der sog.
