The text based nature results in long messages and will result in significant transmission delays because of the large message size and relatively low data rates across the radio interface. This makes signalling inefficient over bandwidth limited wireless channels. Protocol Specific Text Compression (PSTC) is a compression technique for the optimization of long ASCII text based messages and has therefore the potential to improve the throughput.
