Das Ziel dieses Buches ist, einen Überblick über die wichtigsten gegenwärtig benutzten Algorithmen für Computer zu geben und diese dem wachsenden Personenkreis, der Kenntnisse über grundlegende Methoden auf diesem Gebiet benötigt, zu vermitteln. Das Buch kann als Lehrbuch für das zweite, dritte oder vierte Studienjahr der Informatik verwendet werden, nachdem die Studenten einige Fertigkeiten bei der Programmierung und eine gewisse Vertrautheit mit Computersystemen erworben haben, doch bevor sie Spezialvorlesungen über weiterführende Gebiete der Informatik oder Computer-Anwendungen absolviert haben. Er ist Mitherausgeber des Journal of Algorithms und von Algorithmica. Ich hab mir dieses Buch schon vor eine Weile gekauft, weil ich lernen wollte meine Programme effizienter zu gestalten. Ich dachte ein paar echte Algorithmen die ausführlich besprochen werden wären dafür eine gute Idee. Zum Teil stimmt das auch, und auch die Ausführungen zur Berechnung der Komplexität (Groß O & Co), Rekursion und anderen Grundlagen sind wirklich gut - doch wurde mein Code weder besser, noch effizienter. Was mich aber noch mehr geärgert hatteSedgewick lügt! Er hat da Lösungen zu Probleme - die leider nicht funktionieren. Gerade eben habe ich mich wieder über das Ding zur Infix->Postfix Konvertierung geärgert, es tut einfach nicht. Ich hätte mir doch das Buch in Pascal kaufen sollen, da ist er angeblich sattelfester und die Programme funktionieren sogar ;-) Was auch gewagt ister meint, man solle K&R2 gelesen haben wenn man sich in C einarbeiten will - nur leider verbricht er selbst Programme, wo sich jedem K&R2-Leser die Fußnägel aufrollen. Vielleicht gibt's ja inzwischen eine neue Ausgabe wo all diese Dinge gefixt wurden, bei meiner steht 1992 drin. Naja, man darf dem Mann aber nicht zu Unrecht irgendwelche Dinge in seinen Implementierungen vorwerfen. Das Wertvolle am Buch ist der Text drumherum und darauf kommt es an - daher auch 4 Sterne. Es ist wirklich gut, aber wenn er dann erzählt "Und hier eine Lösung:" und dann kommt gelogener Code - damit hat er sich um den 5. Stern gebracht. Wie gut daß ich im Informatik-Studium das Zeug nochmal *richtig* beigebracht bekommen werde; wobei Sedgewick dort neben Knuth auch als Standardliteratur eingesetzt wird. Übrigens ist die Original-Version (Englisch) anders, auch der Code.
