Aggiungi al carrelloSoft cover. Condizione: Very Good. 1st Edition. Signed by the author on the title page. From letter at start of book: The wide range of Civil War cartoons. collected provides, I think, a good cross-section of those typical of that time, and they are very revealing of the attitudes toward Lincoln. As we all know, caricaturists found in him an ideal subject for ridicule, for homely jest, and for praise. He was the butt of rancor, sarcasm and abuse not only in the South, but more astonishingly in the Northern press and in England. Northern weeklies account for most of these 175 graphics. About one-fourth are from the pens of two Englishmen who never met him. The rest are campaign posters or such smuggled cyanide as the half dozen or so reproduced here from the stylus of the Baltimore dentist, Adalbert Volck. Unpaginated but approx. 80 pages. Trade edition; no stated publishing history so presumed first edition, first printing thus. This is a used book. Pages are clean and bright with no markings, notes, or highlighting. Covers show only minor shelf wear and are not creased. No owner's marks or bookplates, not ex-library. Binding is tight and square. Hinges are secure. Remnant of price sticker on front cover. Corners very lightly bumped. Signed by Author(s).
