William Jefferson Blythe (Clinton) 1950Sein Vater William Jefferson Blythe Jr. (1918 1946) war Geschäftsreisender und starb drei Monate vor Bills Geburt bei einem Verkehrsunfall. Sein Ur-Ur-Ur-Ur-Großvater soll Ahnenforschern zufolge Charles I. gewesen sein, der 1847 in einem Dorf an der schottisch-englischen Grenze zum König der Yetholm-Zigeuner gekrönt worden war. Seine Mutter Virginia Dell Cassidy (1923 1994) erlernte in New Orleans einen Pflegeberuf und ließ ihren Sohn bei den Großeltern Eldridge und Edith Cassidy zurück, die in Hope eine Gemischtwarenhandlung betrieben und ein Wohnhaus ihr Eigen nannten. 1950 kehrte Bills Mutter aus New Orleans zurück und heiratete kurz darauf Roger Clinton, der gemeinsam mit seinem Bruder in Hot Springs ein Autohaus führte. Die Familie zog noch im gleichen Jahr nach Hot Springs um. Mit 14 Jahren nahm Clinton den Namen seines Stiefvaters an, den er selbst als Spieler und Alkoholiker bezeichnete und dem er überdies unterstellte, regelmäßig seine Mutter und gelegentlich auch seinen Bruder misshandelt zu haben. Clinton machte 1968 mit 22 Jahren einen College-Abschluss an der Georgetown University in international affairs als Wirtschaftswissenschaftler.
