VOLUME 2 contains the complete dictionary of architectural terms from Daviler's landmark "Cours d'Architecture" (first published in France in 1691). With frontispiece b&w engraving. Author Augustin Charles Daviler (or d'Aviler / Aviler) (1653-1701), was "a 17th-century French architect. He was one of the main promoters of the vignolesc canon, but far from simply publishing it, he developed it by proposing variations of motifs to give more flexibility and expressiveness to the rigid system of the five orders". Title page printed in black & red. With 4-page Avertissement, followed by main body of text, titled "Explication des Termes d'Architecture, &c.", with illustrated heading. No illustrations within. Full title as follows: "Dictionnaire d'Architecture, Ou Explication de Tous les Termes, Dont on se Sert Dans l'Architecture, les Mathematiques, la Geometrie, la Mecanique, l'Hydraulique, le Dessein, la Peinture, la Sculpture, les Mesures, les Instruments, la Coutume, &c.
