The 42nd (Royal Highland The Black Watch) were stationed in the Mediterranean, principally at Malta and Corfu through the late 1830's to mid 1840's. Detailed instructions to ensure the correct formation for exercises and inspections, with and without arms, and for the movement of battalions, brigades and lines including those for light infantry formations.
