He became British consul-general for the Ionian Islands, serving from 1800 to 1804. Horae Ionicae incorporates his reminiscences of his time in Greece. Byron praised the poem in his English Bards, and Wright is mentioned in the notes to Childe Harold, Canto II. Copsey, Suffolk writers to 1800, p. 553.
