Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Friedrich Gerstäcker begab sich im März des Jahres 1849 auf eine sehr abenteuerliche Reise, die ihn nach Südamerika, Kalifornien, die Südsee, Australien und Java führen sollte. Dabei erlebte er den Goldrausch in Kalifornien und suchte selbst nach Gold mit dem Erfolg, vom Erlös kaum seinen Lebensunterhalt bestreiten zu können. An Bord eines Walfängers ging es in die Südsee, mit einem Eingeborenenboot zu verschiedenen Inseln und schließlich mit einem Segelschiff nach Australien, wo er ebenfalls den dortigen Goldrausch erlebte. Von hier führte ihn die Reiseroute nach Java. Friedrich Gerstäcker war zu Gast im Hause des holländischen Assistent-Residenten und lernte dabei auch Marie Louise kennen - die später, in Deutschland, seine zweite Frau wurde.
