Erste Ausgabe.- Der französische Staatsmann und Publizist Dominique Dufour de Pradt (1759 - 1837) war zunächst ein Gegner der Revolution und emigrierte nach Hamburg, änderte aber nach dem 18. Brumaire seine Ansicht. Er war u.a. Napoleons Almosenier, Bischof von Poitiers und Erzbischof von Mecheln, wandte sich nach 1812 wieder den Bourbonen zu, fiel aber bei Ludwig XVIII. trotzdem in Ungnade.- Im vorliegenden Band skizziert Pradt die Entwicklung in Europa vom Wiener bis zum Aachener Kongreß, charakterisiert die Situation der Teilnehmerstaaten, schildert und kommentiert die Kongreß-Beschlüsse. Ordained priest in 1783, he was appointed bishop of Poitiers by Napoleon in 1804 and in 1809 archbishop of Malines. Victim of the conflict between Naopeon and Pius VII he was never enthroned and residing in Malines was forced to idleness. In 1812 ambassador of Napoleon in Poland, he turned to writing and politics after 1815. The Congress of Aix (Aachen) of 1818 settled the relations between post-napoleontic France and the occupying forces.
