Des Weiteren ist auch die Frage 'Ist rückwirkende Kausalität möglich ' selbst nicht einfach. Hinter ihr verbergen sich zahlreiche andere wichtige Fragen. Die vermutlich wichtigste gilt es zuvor in Kapitel 5 zu stellen, nämlich die einfach anmutende Frage, was Kausalität ist. Tatsächlich ist diese Frage sehr komplex, weshalb in dieser Arbeit auch nicht der Anspruch gestellt wird, sie wirklich befriedigend zu klären.Gemeinhin wird gesagt, dass Ursachen immer früher geschähen als ihre Wirkungen; häufig wird als Grenzfall noch anerkannt, dass Ursachen mit ihren Wirkungen gleichzeitig sein können; doch manche halten es gar für denkbar, dass Ursachen nach ihren Wirkungen stattfinden.
