About the book >.>.> THE success which attended the Illustrated Edition of Mr. Ruskin's Notes on his Turner Drawings, has induced The Fine Art Society again to ask his consent to the issue of a similar edition of those compiled by him on Samuel Prout and William Hunt. This consent he has given, and the more readily, because the means of reproduction adopted in the present instance are more satisfactory than those used in the former volume. More satisfactory for these reasons-first, that the reproductions are taken directly from the originals, instead of from engravings after the originals-second, that the majority of the drawings now reproduced lend them-selves more readily to the process. On this account, too, the drawings of Prout have been reproduced in fifteen instances, whilst of the Hunt's only five have been selected. Subscribers to the Illustrated Edition of the Turner Notes will, it is trusted, forgive the want of uniformity in size between the two volumes, it being found that the larger sheet now use.

This wonderful book is in reasonably good condition and as its a used book, normal wear, marks and tear apply consistent with use and age. Published by The Fine Art Society in 1880, illustrations with twenty Autotypes. All pages intact and all illustrations are in good order. Some wear to corners of boards, and spine please see photos, overall this book is in good condition considering its going on for one hundred and forty-five years old. Binding is okay and all hand cut pages are in good, clean, readable order. An interesting book that portrays a wonderful period in time. Definitely worth preserving for future generations.

With a photogravure engraved landscape frontispiece, 34 further photogravure engraved plates, and a large map illustrating Turner's 'haunts' around the British Isles. Original morocco-backed dark green cloth boards, lettered in gilt to spine. Rubbed, with wear to spine. Inked presentation inscription 'Stopford Brooke with the Fine Art Society's compliments Feb 1879' to FFEP. Endpapers browned, otherwise internally clean and crisp. An illustrated edition of English art critic John Ruskin's (1819-1900) notes on the drawings of the late J. M. W. Turner (1775-1851), English Romantic painter. The plates within were produced using the 'new process of photogravure', or photographic engraving, to best reproduce the original artwork which accompanies Ruskin's commentary. The terminal map displays Turner's primary 'haunts', or drawing spots, across the United Kingdom, with a small key identifying his most important 'tours'. This copy was presented by the Fine Art Society to Irish critic and churchman Stopford Brooke (1832-1916). Size: 8vo.
