Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Fair. Condizione sovraccoperta: Good. First of this edition. The original edition was published twenty years earlier in 1938 by Oxford University Press. On the front flap of the dust jacket it states 'Henry Z. Walck, Inc. successor to Oxford Books For Boys And Girls.' On the copyright page it states 'First published 1958.' You can see the green covers in the photos. The red lettering on the spine is nicely bright. There is some wear at the bottom edge of the spine. Some color fade at both the top and bottom edges of the spine. The cover edges look pretty good, though the bottom one has some browning of the green and the rear bottom one has one very small spot of rub-through. The middle page edge has a few spots of soiling. The bottom page edge has a long brown stain which spilled over onto the actual pages, particularly the early ones (contact me to see photos). The book is square. The spine has a little bit of jiggle in it, but the book is very solidly bound with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. Each of the inside covers has a reinforced binding. The reason for the only Fair rating is the soiling, tan spots on the title page and the first ten pages of text. After that the pages are clean, only a tiny sliver of a tan spot off their bottom edges. I didn't see any creasing on any of the pages. There are no markings. There is one attachment, a small circular gold sticker, off the bottom edge of the front inside cover. It says Creative Playtime, West Hartford Conn.' There are no other attachments. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. You can see the dust jacket in the first few photos. That tan spot on the front cover is similar to the kind of spots on the early pages. There is a vertical crease on the spine, also small losses at both of its top and bottom edges. The flaps are in solid condition. The front one has several of those tan spots. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. I have always had it in a fitted protective cover. I'm listing this book because it is something the classic children's book. The Oxford original is quite expensive. I've priced my book at a sharp discount to the next least expensive of this 1958 edition.

Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. Ardizzone. (illustratore). Unpaginated picture book, illustrated by the author in colour and black and white. Bound in original pictorial paper-covered boards. The boards have minor wear along extremities, dust wrapper has a 2cm tear in top margin and an old/feint circular drink mark, some thumbing in text, else a good copy. First published 1944. I believe Ardizzone redrew some of the pictures and made some changes as the copyright is 1958, so this is a first edition, as such. After Tim's experience with a shipwreck, he is fortunate to meet 7-year-old Lucy and her exceedingly rich and easily persuaded guardian. Mr Grimes is only too happy to buy the steam launch Evangeline and let Tim hire a crew for him. When they rescue "a villainous looking lot" of sailors at sea, only the quick thinking of Tim and Lucy averts catastrophe. Ardizzone won the Kate Greenaway medal for Tim All Alone and the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award for Little Tim and the Brave Sea Captain. Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. 1st Edition. London: Oxford University Press, [1938] Folio., highly decorative publisher's boards featuring a ship and the duo aboard, looking out to sea; together in the rare repeat dust wrapper; printed throughout with 36 charming lithographic illustrations in full watercolour, including to title page; [unpaginated]; on bifold leaves, printed on versos only; a wonderful example, one small crease to paper of upper board, slightly splayed at outer edge; with some mild rubbing to the extremities and the odd darker mark; internally very fresh, a touch offset with some mild dirtying to the gutters of endleaves; the jacket, seldom found at all, is here a little marked and rubbed, with a couple of small closed tears and one or two internal spots to verso; both flaps price clipped. First UK edition. Ardizzone's third book for children. The author and artist initially published his titles in this pleasing large format - later stories saw a reduction in size, for practical purposes. However these earlier examples show the colour illustrations all the more in their full glory. Edward Ardizzone was a British Painter and War Artist who, during the course of his career, wrote and illustrated countless books for children. His first three, Little Tim and the Brave Sea Captain, Lucy Brown and Mr Grimes and this, Tim and Lucy to to Sea, were so well received that he was assigned as a full-time war artist. First serving with the British Expeditionary Force, he later spent his nights sketching the London Underground, where tube tunnels were being used as air raid shelters. He travelled to Cairo, Sicily and Algiers, painting all the while, and had produced almost 400 sketches and watercolours by the time the war ended in 1945. The present title sees Tim, along with his friend Lucy and her guardian Mr Grimes, travel out to sea in the beautiful Yacht Evangeline. But things do not altogether go to plan, as they fall into the hands of villainous mutineers' A beautiful children's book.
