His writings mostly discuss common experiences. His literary reputation was first made by a flair for parody, in a column Imaginary Speeches in The New Age from 1909. This collection includes parodies of , among others, Hillaire Belloc, W. H. Davies, Sir Henry Newbolt, John Masefield, G. K. Chesterton, H. G. Wells, and George Bernard Shaw. Ref TT3.
