The aspects of typographic interest covered in the 35 articles presented here span centuries and continents, and represent a "who's who" from the world of type and book arts. "Matrix" is the longest surviving (and probably the last) typographic journal to be printed by letterpress. It is an eclectic mix of fine printing, type design, and small press lore. The content is universally acknowledged for its original, lively, and well-informed writing, and forms a record of events and personalities whose memory would otherwise have died with their recorders. In the future it will be impossible to research fine printing without reference to "Matrix." The circulation of original issues of "Matrix" is limited to around 800 copies, back issues becoming quickly out of print and selling at a high price.
