VG/VG . dj has a closed splitto top edge otherwise in lovely condition. no markings. or inscriptions. not price clipped. internally a good crisp clean copy. From the personal collection of a dealer/collector. Stephen Shores legendary Uncommon Places has influenced a generation of photographers. Among the first artists to take colour beyond the domain of advertising and fashion photography, Shores large-format colour work on the American vernacular landscape stands at the root of what has become a vital photographic tradition over the past thirty years. Uncommon Places: The Complete Works is the definitive collection of this landmark series. An essay by noted critic and curator Stephan Schmidt-Wulffen and a conversation with Shore by fiction writer Lynne Tillman examine his methodology as they elucidate his roots in the pop and conceptual art movements of the late sixties and early seventies. The texts are illustrated with reproductions from Shores earlier series American Surfaces and Amarillo: Tall in Texas.

Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. The book and jacket are in very good condition, some shelf rubbing to the jacket mostly along the edges, the book has much less. Text and images inside appear clean and clear throughout. 'Stephen Shore followed up his first volume of photographs, American Surfaces, for which he traveled the United States, with an even more expansive and in-depth exploration of the North American way of life in "Uncommon Places." Shore traveled much more extensively during the period of 1973 to 1979, from which these images are culled. The other main difference is that Shore had moved into large-format imagery at this point, hauling around an 8x10 view camera on his journey. This expanded edition from 2004 includes more than 60 previously unpublished images and an interview with Shore by Lynne Tillman.' 188 pages. inches. May require additional postage. Hardcover. Condizione: New. Condizione sovraccoperta: New. 1st Edition. Hardcover in new condition with dust jacket (new condition). This rare 2004 First Edition, 1st Printing (stated) of Uncommon Places: The Complete Works. A rare and highly collectible edition of this landmark photobook, long considered a fundamental primer for the last thirty years of large-format color photograph Published by Aperture Foundation includes much never before published or exhibited work; the first edition thus. Publisher's Description Published by Aperture in 1982 and long unavailable, Stephen Shore's legendary Uncommon Places has influenced a generation of photographers. Among the first artists to take color beyond advertising and fashion photography, Shore's large-format color work on the American vernacular landscape stands at the root of what has become a vital photographic tradition. Uncommon Places: The Complete Works presents a definitive collection of the original series, much of it never before published or exhibited. Like Robert Frank and Walker Evans before him, Shore discovered a hitherto disarticulated version of America via highway and camera. Approaching his subjects with cool objectivity, Shore's images retain precise internal systems of gestures in composition and light through which the objects before his lens assume both an archetypal aura and an ambiguously personal importance. In contrast to Shore's signature landscapes with which 'Uncommon Places' is often associated, this expanded survey reveals equally remarkable collections of interiors and portraits. As a new generation of artists expands on the projects of the New Topographic and New Color photographers of the seventies-Thomas Struth (whose first book was titled Unconscious Places), Andreas Gursky, and Catherine Opie among them-Uncommon Places: The Complete Works provides a timely opportunity to reexamine the diverse implications of Shore's project and offers a fundamental primer for the last thirty years of large-format color photography.
