A clean sound copy of the very scarce First Edition crudely hand lettered to the spine. The Essay was awarded First Prize by the The British South African Company in 1911 in a competition open to all Civil Servants, on Native Subjects; Customs, Sociology, History Native Lore etc. its author grew up in Zululand and came to Rhodes…ia in June 1890. Six years later he he was appointed Native Commissioner and held the post for twenty- two years. Cr.8vo. 151 pps. original cloth backed printed boards inscribed to the front paste-down by Anthropologist Charles Theodore Binns (1894-1978) who lived amongst the Zulu nation for many years, becoming an expert on their history and culture.
