Notably, this copy was produced by American Book Company, a key educational publisher formed from several 19th-century textbook houses, known for blending aesthetic design and durability in its classroom editions. A. C. McLean served as principal of the Luckey Schools in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and was active in curriculum design for primary and intermediate English instruction. Thomas C. Blaisdell, Ph.D., was professor of English at the Fifth Avenue Normal High School, Pittsburgh, and later known for his work in teacher training and textbook authorship.
