This is a Very Good Copy of this book in half cream vellum over marbled boards with brown moroccan label lettered in gilt to spine. With green matt endpapers.Top edge of the book is in gilt. There are NO former names or inscriptions present but with one former price in pen…to the blank front endpaper. There is some aging and toning marks to the cream vellum but commensurate I would say to the age of the book. The Sportsman in Ireland is a classic 19th-century travel and sporting literature work, originally published in 1840 by A Cosmopolite (identified as Robert Allan) with a significant new edition released in 1897 by Edward Arnold. This new edition illustrated by P. Chenevix Trench, features lively descriptions of hunting and angling in the West of Ireland, interspersed with anecdotes about the local people and history. It is generally considered one of the most entertaining accounts of sport ever published and remains a sought-after item among rare book collectors.A Very decent copy for the collector that was acquired from a hugely impressive library of books on Big Game Hunting and shooting in the UK Asia,The Far East,America,Canada,Africa and New Zealand,8vo 306pp New Edition [1897]. P Chenevix Trench (illustratore).
