Aggiungi al carrelloPaperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book dissects the historic struggle between the UK government and its citizens over budget cuts and spending. The author claims that around 1817, a significant shift occurred, transforming the once collaborative relationship between the House of Commons and its constituents into one characterized by government evasion of public concerns over spending. The book argues that rather than fulfilling their duty to diminish government spending, as had always been the standard practice, Parliament instead created Finance Committees, whose main function was to remove the pressure to reduce government spending from public discourse and legitimize government spending to the public. The author provides a historical account of the Finance Committee's actions in 1817 and the years that followed, substantiating the claim that the committees were, in fact, instruments of the government's evasion rather than sincere attempts to curb spending or alleviate the tax burden on British citizens. Ultimately, this book reveals the disturbing reality of a government body designed to represent the people, acting instead to protect the interests of the government itself. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
