Choisy's account of the embassy, in the form of a daily journal addressed to a friend, is an acknowledged classic of French travel writing (from the jacket flap). The original work was translated into English and introduced by Michael Smithies. This is the first edition in English. Small signature of former owner on the front endpaper.
