Première Édition fra…nçaise, offrant une description l'état de l'Église en Abyssinie, avec des détails curieux sur le gouvernement et les moeurs des habitants et des descriptions zoologiques, illustrée d'un frontispice par L. de Boullongne gravé sur cuivre par Cochin et de 2 cartes dépliantes. L'auteur, Geronimo Lobo (1595-1678), fils d'un gouverneur du Cap-Vert, fut missionnaire jésuite aux Indes et fit ensuite un voyage en Abyssinie en 1634 , il écrit une «Histoire de l'Éthiopie» en portugais 1659, traduite , continuée en français par l'abbé Joachim Legrand , enrichie de quinze dissertations sur l'Éthiopie , sa géographie, son histoire, la forme de christianisme qui y prévaut , la légende du Prêtre Jean, etc., et d'autres documents relatifs au même pays Joachim Legrand , ecclésiastique, historien et diplomate français , il fut secrétaire d'ambassade à Lisbonne , pendant ses loisirs, il rassembla toute la documentation qu'il put trouver sur les pays lointains que les Portugais appelaient leurs Conquêtes, il publia aussi , l'Histoire de l'île de Ceylan, écrite par le capitaine Jean Ribeyro .
