Very good overall condition. Original dark cloth boards remain sound and square, with light general rubbing and a few small scuffs, most noticeable at the extremities and spine ends. Gilt titling and decorative borders on the front board and spine are dulled but still fully legible. Slight outward bowing at the head and foot of the spine, visible when viewed from above. Spine shows mild wear at the head and tail, with slight fraying at the corners. Internally, the binding is firm. Endpapers show moderate age toning and light scattered foxing, consistent with the period. A contemporary ink gift inscription is present on the front endpaper. Text pages are clean and unmarked, with even age toning throughout and no tears or repairs noted. Issued as part of the Jewish Communities Series, this volume offers a scholarly and detailed account of the Jewish presence in Cologne from antiquity through the modern era, written by noted historian Adolf Kober, who later emigrated to the United States after fleeing Nazi Germany. Translated by Solomon Grayzel.
