Februar 1848 in Heidelberg, studierte und promovierte hier 1871 und vervollständigte seine Ausbildung in Berlin (Traube, Frerichs) und Wien (Hebra, Kaposi, Schrötter). Von 1872 bis 1876 Assistent Friedreichs, habilitierte er sich 1872 an seiner Alma mater für innere Medizin (1876 a. o. Professor) und übernahm 1886 als o. Professor die Medizinische Klinik in Dorpat, mußte jedoch schon 1887 wegen Kehlkopftuberkulose seine Lehrtätigkeit aufgeben. Einige Jahre praktizierte er im Winter in Ospedaletti und San Remo, im Sommer in Badenweiler und ließ sich 1893 in Wiesbaden nieder, wo er am 2. Juli 1916 starb. Weil beschäftigte sich unter anderem eingehend mit der physikalischen Diagnostik, Arbeiten auf dem Gebiet der Pathologie der Lungen und Bronchien, Pathologie und Therapie des Typhus abdominalis und beschrieb eine hereditäre Form des Diabetes insipidus (Virchows Arch. 1884, Bd. 95, S. 70). Sein Hauptverdienst erwarb er sich durch die Entdeckung und Beschreibung der später nach ihm benannten WEIL'schen Krankheit." Fischer, p.1656.
