Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Gut. 73 S. Price tag on dust jacket, otherwise a good copy. --- The story of Orestes' return does not call for the same frequent glimpses into past and future as the preceding story of the deaths of Agamemnon and Cassandra. The past is often mentioned while the future is kept uncertain. The first half of the play concentrates on Electra's recognition of Orestes and on the preparation for the attack of the usurpers. An all-important preliminary to these preparations is the great conjuration designed to arouse the ghost of Agamemnon and to ensure its active collaboration in the destruction of the murderers. The second part of the play shows how Orestes enters the palace and carries out his task. During the last act it becomes apparent that the Erinyes, who would have pursued Orestes had he neglected to avenge his father, will now pursue him for the murder of his mother. - "An unfortunate result of the eagerness of modern commentators to lay stress on Aeschylus as a thinker and religious poet has been the frequent neglect to observe that The Libation Bearers, like Agamemnon, is full of suspense, action, and skillfully contrived surprise." - from the Author's Introduction. --- CONTENTS: FOREWORD TO THE SERIES vii - - THE ATHENIAN DRAMATISTS: SCHEMA viii - - INTRODUCTION TO THE SERIES ix - - 1. Gebunden. Condizione: Sehr gut. 432 pp. Deutsch.…
