Some of these humorous ballads appeared in The Eye-witness of 1912 and its successor, The New Witness, but the majority were written in the last few years. Among the eighteen contributors are Hilaire Belloc, G. K. Chesterton and J. C. Squire. With numerous whole page drawings by the artist, John Nash (1893-1977).
