Esemplare composto dalle quattro parti complete, legate insieme in un unico volume, ciascuna con proprio frontespizio, autonoma numerazione e struttura tipografica indipendente. La compresenza delle quattro sezioni, pur editorialmente distinte, restituisce la configurazione sostanzialmente integrale della raccolta nella sua veste padovana di metà Seicento. L'edizione del 1659, accresciuta di «molte additioni», si colloca nella fase matura della fortuna tipografica delle rime pavane di Giovanni Battista Maganza (Magagnò), con i componimenti attribuiti a Marco Thiene (Menon) e Agostino Rava (Begotto). La stampa padovana di Giovanni Battista Brigna consolida la tradizione editoriale di questo filone rusticale, che aveva conosciuto precedenti cinquecenteschi e continue ristampe. Particolarmente significativa, anche sul piano della storia della ricezione, è l'inclusione del primo canto dell'Orlando Furioso di Ludovico Ariosto, «nuovamente tradotto» in lingua rustica: operazione parodica e insieme metaletteraria, che certifica la piena consapevolezza del modello alto e ne attua un abbassamento programmatico. Mezza pelle, piatti rivestiti di carta marmorizzata verde e tassello in pelle con titolo manoscritto. Tagli spruzzati di verde. In 8° piccolo, quattro parti rilegate in un volume: 72 cc., 76 cc., 80 cc., 127 cc. Legatura coeva in piena pergamena molle. Piccoli difetti. Piccoli forellini al margine esterno delle prime tre carte, ininfluente e per il resto, nel complesso, esemplare in buone-ottime condizioni di conservazione. Titolo chiosato al dorso da mano leggermente posteriore. Ogni parte presenta un frontespizio a se' stante. Prima edizione completa delle quatro parti di questa celebre raccolta di componimenti in dialetto padovano. Si legge nella "Biografia degli scrittori padovani": "Agostino Rapa, prete secolare vicentino, Gio. Battista Maganza, e Bartolommeo Rustichello, concittadino del Rapa, scrissero nel dialetto rustico padovano, e tutti tre nascosero i proprii nomi sotto quelli di Menon il primo, di Magagnò il secondo, e Begotto il terzo. Le loro rime a stampa, che ci restano, vanno unite" (Vedova). Maganza fu poeta e pittore a Venezia, allievo di Tiziano, e membro dell'Accademia degli Infiammati. La prima edizione della sola prima parte di questa raccolta di rime uscì nel 1558 a Padova. Seguirono diverse edizioni delle singole parti. G.
