Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Very Good+. Reprint. (no dust jacket) [a good sound copy, nice and clean with just a little wear at the extremities, slight scrunching to top edges of several pages in the middle of the book]. A novel of "love, intrigue, horror, and murder," the story of "a brilliant and ruthless woman, [a] governess whose charm and diabolic cleverness brought destruction in their wake." Reprint of the first novel published by this prolific author under her "Joseph Shearing" pseudonym; it originally appeared in England in 1932 under the title "Forget-Me-Not," and was published in America the same year by Harper & Brothers as "Lucile Cléry: A Woman of Intrigue." (Note that the book itself bears no date other than the 1932 copyright notice, which causes most booksellers to mis-identify this printing as the first American edition. Unfortunately, the clues to the 1941 printing are present only on the dust jacket, which is NOT present on this particular copy.). Illustrated by (dj design) Leo Manso (illustratore).…

Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. 1st Edition. A First edition of this very rare crime novel by Marjorie Bowen (itself a pseudonym) - written under the pen-name of Joseph Shearing. Moss Rose is a fictionalized account of a true story about the unsolved murder of a prostitute in 1872 - with the addition of the author's theories about whodunnit. Published in London by Heinemann in 1934. Original dark pink cloth with gilt titles at the backstrip, 340 pages and one further leaf of ads (for two other titles by the author) at the rear. A Very Good copy. With a very minor lean and a reading crease along the backstrip. The binding is firm, the corners fairly sharp, minor bumping to the tips and some loss of colour/sunning at the extreme edge of the lower tip. The top-edge of the block is just slightly dusty, remaining edges clean. The block is remarkably fresh, completely free from foxing or spotting, there are no previous owner names or bookplates. This is an excellent-condition copy. The printed dustjacket is unclipped with price of 7/6 Net at the front flap. There is normal, minor shelf-wear to the edges and corners commensurate with age but nothing substantial other than at the spine tips where some loss of the laminate has occurred. The rear panel shows some crease-lines and some print-soiling. Overall, Very Good with faults. Extremely rare in the dustjacket, a splendid example of a very rare title.…

Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover Second Printing. Condizione: Fine. Very Good+ dj. American Edition. [beautiful clean copy with no discernible wear; jacket has small tears and minor chipping/paper loss at spine ends, a couple of short closed tears and associated creasing along bottom edge of front panel]. A "stirring tale, filled with color and movement, the setting being the autocratic life of the great nobles in the most wealthy and dissipated of the German states, Saxony, at the close of the seventeenth century. The story centers around the delicately beautiful Madelon de Neitschütz, who is forced by her unscrupulous father and dissipated brothers to choose wealth and power instead of love." The second of some two dozen novels produced under this pseudonym by this prolific author, whose works in the field of gothic horror/crime fiction (usually written as "Joseph Shearing" or "Marjorie Bowen") are highly collectable. Ferdinand Horvath, who illustrated the dust jacket, was a Hungarian-born illustrator who became a highly-regarded sketch artist at the Walt Disney studios in the 1930s; although not credited, he was known to have contributed to the character designs for SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS. Illustrated by (dj) F.H. Horvath (illustratore).…
