In writing Off- beat, it had become obvious that one volume, even a largish one, would not accommodate all I had to say. In the end, some chapters already written, much of my background and almost all the accounts of professional and other travel were left out of Off-beat, with the intention that they should be integrated as a separate volume, Biologist a!
