Like Pausa magazine, its possible antecedent, added, among directors and collaborators, an important group of young writers and intellectuals, coming both from the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters (today Humanities and Arts) of the National University of Rosario and from its bars surrounding: María Teresa Gramuglio, Gladys S. Onega, Norma Desinano, Juan José Saer, Noemí Ulla, Gladys Rimini, Daniel Wagner, among others. Although only two numbers were published, it offers a wide sample of the interests that crossed and questioned the publishing group, sometimes referred to as "the Ehret group", in reference to a bar that was around the corner from the Faculty.In the editorial of the first issue, the magazine proposed to provide tools for working with the word and to denounce all those values ??that were "frightened by the advance of the class struggle." With regard to the objective of the complaint, the editorial of the second issue clarifies that "El Arremangado Brazo is postulated as a project to prosecute our literature (preferably today's) from a leftist perspective.". The sum of reports "to the other city" ("The man from Villa Manuelita" and "The garbage men"), the translation of "Dialectical materialism and history of literature", by Lucien Goldmann, original translations of poets not very widespread in Argentina in those years (Vinicius de Moraes, Manuel Bandeira, Carlos Drummond de Andrade), generally harsh reviews of Argentine authors (Desinano on Dalmiro Sáenz and Medina on Jorge Riestra), works by the same directors (short stories by Medina and poems by Ielpi), a then unpublished story by Juan José Saer, "Por lavuelta", which would only be published the following year in the book Palo y Hueso, trace the singular arc of a mythical publication until now, which finally returns to be put into circulation. The avant-garde air does not cease and surrealism undoubtedly obtains preference, but the general set impresses as a tempered response to the exorbitant sculptural-poetic essay that Kosice and his companions had practiced some of whom were already in Letra y Línea in the sense of making moderate use of the proclamative tone of the ultraist renovators and devoting more time to studying works and currents of thought. Thus, there is polemic with Mallea, the first Sabato is defended, there is homage to Francis Picabia who died at that time, there is a memory of Macedonio, who had also died a year earlier, there is pertinent writing about dodecaphony and its relation to literature (Proust), there is publication of Aimé Césaire, Michaux and Jonquières, while an advance of Onetti and another of Norah Lange are read, cautious polemics are admitted (Julio Payró writes a letter to readers where he indicates that Juan del Prete and Petorutti also deserve the curt name of non-objectivists), in short, the avant-garde here takes place calmly and almost austerely. Non-existent books are not invented to comment on as in Arte Madí and the cultural news is recorded with a certain spirit that shares equally a polemical and an informative bias. Letra y Línea is the bridge between the avant-garde movement that pushes its limits towards an inventionism without complacency, and the magazine Contorno, where literary, political and philosophical criticism establishes its central motifs with almost classical foundations.
