Das Buch zeigt die Geschichte und das Innere des Logengebaudes auf dem Lindenhof in Zurich, das vor 160 Jahren von der Freimaurerloge ,Modestia cum Libertate" eingeweiht wurde. Der Zurcher Architekt Gustav Albert Wegmann, bekannt fur bemerkenswerte Baut…en wie das Kantonsspital und die Kantonsschule, entwarf das Logengebaude im neogotischen Stil. Als Mitglied der Freimaurerloge wurde er 1852 mit der Planung beauftragt und legte sein Projekt schnell vor, wobei er betonte, dass das Gebaude ,den Stempel des Geheimnisvollen" tragen musse. Das Projekt durchlief zugig das staatliche Bewilligungsverfahren, und die feierliche Eroffnung fand am 25. April 1854 statt. Wegmann gestaltete nicht nur die Architektur, sondern auch das Innere im gotischen Stil, einschliesslich Kerzenstocken und dem Altar des Meisters vom Stuhl. Heute gilt das Gebaude als schutzwurdig, sowohl aussen als auch innen. Der Autor Alfred Messerli beschreibt die Geschichte des Lindenhofes von der Urzeit bis heute und beleuchtet weitgehend unbekannte Details im Inneren, die Einblicke in die freimaurerische Symbolik und Ritualistik geben. Abgerundet wird das Buch mit einer kurzen geschichtlichen Darstellung der acht Freimaurerlogen auf dem Lindenhof. Der Fotograf Juraj Lipscher hat die vielen Details eindrucksvoll festgehalten, sodass ein interessanter Bildband entstanden ist, der auch Eingeweihte uberrascht.
