Pp. 2; 1 full page plate of Hemichirotes tridactylus (= Bipes tridactylus) that is hand-colored. Extract with no wrappers issued, lg 4to. From La Naturaleza, ser. 2, volume 2. Commonly known as the three-toed worm lizard, this species appears to be restricted to a small area close to the Rio Tecpan, in coastal Guerrero State, Mexico. It is a lowland species. Originally from the library of Karl P. Schmidt with his signature on the title page. Later from the library of George Sprague Myers with his circular name stamp and from Kraig Adler with his name stamp - all three ownership marks are on the title page. Rare work. A clean copy in very good condition.

Publisher's original one-quarter red morocco leather, spine with four raised bands lettered in gilt in one compartment and with 6 decorative gilt panel lines, over thick marbled boards, lg 8vo. This volume is a general review of zoology by a well-known Mexican herpetologist often referred to as "the Father of Mexican Herpetology". There is a short section on reptiles and amphibians in the volume. The text is in Spanish. The only ownership mark is an old oval name stamp of 'Libreria de Educacion' on the bottom corner of the title page. There are also a few neat marginal ink annotations in the text - these appear to be corrections to the text so they may have come from an errata sheet. Rare work seldom offered. Some wear to the outer leather joints, light soiling to one endpaper; a tight and clean copy in very good condition.
