Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. Of the areas in Anatolia that have attested intensive Neolithic occupation, the western region is the least understood, with systematic investigations barely two decades old. Information concerning the west-central sector around Izmir is particularly limited and underlines the significance of the results from Ulucak, an ancient mound site, and the first Neolithic site to be excavated in this part of Anatolia. The Neolithic settlement is superimposed by the debris of three other main cultural periods, providing an important sequence for the Izmir region. From top to bottom the periods are: Late Roman - Early Byzantine (Period I), Early Bronze Age II (Period II), Late Chalcolithic Age (Period III) and Late Neolithic (Period IV). Of these the Late Neolithic settlement is the most significant, attesting to influences from the Aegean, the Balkans and the Konya Plain. This volume presents the results to date of this multi-disciplinary project, ranging from palaeogeography, through stratigraphy and settlement plans to an analysis of the finds, focusing especially on the Late Neolithic. The sixth international colloquium devoted to the Iron Age of Anatolia was convened at Eskisehir, Turkey, between 16-20 August 2004. As for previous such meetings, the ultimate goal of the Eskisehir gathering was to stimulate academic discussion and pique the curiosity of researchers whose interest lie primarily in the first half of the first millennium BC. The exchange of information and ideas was greatly facilitated by tours to sites that formed the perfect backdrop for many discussions and brought into sharper focus the issues raised by some of the papers. In publishing the revised version of the Eskisehir papers, we hope that this volume will serve as a useful survey on a wide range of critical issues - cultural, historical, chronological and geographical - that are currently shaping archaeological discourse on Iron Age Anatolia. As mentioned elsewhere, among these finds are inscribed bullae, a broken inscribed tablet (the 22nd tablet found so far at Urartu) and a number of gold ornamental objects. In addition, 45 fragments of decorated stone vessels were retrieved. These vessels were made of volcanic rock, with colours ranging from dark brown to grey as a result of post-depositional burning. Summary englisch: Some painted pots in the Van Museum are of interest from the point of their decorations. Similar painted pots were widely manufactured in Western Iran and Caucasia, evidently throughout the second millennium B.C. The result of our study demonstrates that there is a stylistic development from the point of their decorations and forms. There are two different kind of decorations. The first group may be named as "pots with geometric motifs". The second group is "pot with geometric and naturalistic motifs". It has been suggested that painted pots in the East Anatolian museums have illegally smuggled in from Iran. The recent archaeological surveys around the Lake Van have positively proved that these pots were manufactured in this region until the end of the thirteenth century B.C. tr Gewicht in Gramm: 550.

An ex-library book but with minimal rubber stamps on title page & at bottom of text block, otherwise fine. Despite the flurry of research on aspects of Phoenician culture, encompassing their socio-economic developments and the mechanics of their settlement of Mediterranean coastal lands, the fundamental issue of dating Phoenician achievements remains quite fluid. A range of criteria - textual sources, artefact analysis, stratigraphic data, and, increasingly, radiocarbon readings - provide a bewildering and sometimes conflicting picture of Phoenician chronology, which, in many respects, remains tenuous and free-floating. Owing to the nature of Phoenician colonisation, its chronology is often compartmentalised into discrete regional units. This volume brings together a number of essays focusing squarely on the chronology of the Phoenician-Punic world, ranging from the homeland to the western settlements. The essays are written by specialists in their field, who have encapsulated the chronological framework, and the problems therein, for regions touched by Phoenicians interests. A benchmark study, Beyond the Homeland will be of value not only to Phoenician-Punic scholars, but also to those in related fields who need an accessible study (in English) to navigate the chronological complexities of the field.
