He was educated at Westminster School, studied at St. Thomas' Hospital and was a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons. He married Elizabeth Howes, daughter of the Rev Francis Howes, Minor Canon of Norwich Cathedral. He had many interests apart from publishing articles on medical matters, such as chess, literature and music. The poems and a couple of prose pieces are on a variety of subjects and range from the serious and religious to the humorous. Newspaper reviews loosely inserted.
