Oct 01, 1998. Condizione: Used: Very Good. Softcover art book, with no marks or writing in book. Light evidence of handling to the covers. The blue marks in the book are part of the art project. From the publisher's website, "The Palaver is a pocket-sized book of images and texts by writer and film-maker Gad Hollander and artist Andrew Bick which functions as a story board for an imaginary film. It consists of photographs that have an elusive but familiar quality, sourced in various European locations with corresponding text. Each image presents a sense of deja-vu typical of the emotions felt whilst traveling. This feeling is compounded by the addition of blue line drawings super-imposed on each image that operate as a form of 'punctuation' and accentuate potential meanings within the work. ".

The absence of punctuation in the text, coupled with the repetition of phrases that, in turn, echo the repetition of images in different ?edits'' create a stream of consciousness that is pulled in and out of focus." -- publisher''s statement. Aggiungi al carrello22.5 x 16cm. Paperback, unpaginated [approx. 50pp]. Published to accompany an exhibition held at Standpoint Gallery, London. Taking its title from a satirical 1947 Ad Reinhardt cartoon, the exhibition brought together artists who consciously explore notions of abstraction: "their paintings demand an intellectual appreciation, while sometimes, but not necessarily, also appealing to the emotions. Some works literally abstract from a concrete reality, perhaps taking their essence from another field of activity, such as architecture or photography; others achieve an abstraction, or generalised idea, with a relation to the physical world; others operate from an internal point of reference. The artists in this show employ a variety of models of painting; they demonstrate different influences, painting languages and systems of working. They are reflexive, aware of developments in their own field, often painting about painting itself, commenting on the past, yet engaged by new questions about the phenomenological and psychological in contemporary experience. A number of the artists in this exhibition use geometry or the grid, either loosely or disrupted for its dynamic on the canvas or perhaps to explore the idea of the rational in compositional systems. Gesture, if it appears, is deliberate and controlled. All are interested in process, techniques in the use of materials as well as mental calculation; often colour is key. Few, however, allow process to take over and, in fact, often offer the viewer evidence of the journey made: the decision-making, the conflict between doubt and certainty, the theories or philosophies researched and encompassed." Very good condition.
