Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. Guiding FFICM and EDIC exam candidates through the intensive care medicine curriculum, this book provides 48 case studies mapped to eight key areas of study in the UK and European syllabuses. Cases include clinical vignettes, explanations and a list of key learning points, while also being formatted along the structure of FICM case reports. Key clinical management points are identified and linked to appropriate scientific or evidence-based research and case studies chosen reflect a general population relevant to a worldwide readership. Conditions covered are significant to large areas of clinical practice as well as more discrete specialist knowledge, making this an essential study guide for trainees preparing for exams in intensive care medicine and also a useful learning tool for candidates in related disciplines such as anaesthesia (FRCA), emergency medicine (MCEM) and surgery (MRCS). This case-based approach to the intensive care medicine curriculum provides 48 case studies linking core knowledge to clinical context. Topics chosen have been mapped to eight key areas of study, making this ideal for both FFICM and EDIC exam candidates. Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. This is a true story chronicling a hopefully interesting, entertaining and enlightening episode regards a totally adolescent Scots lad's journey not only through his teenage informative years, but also his awakening as a young man on the verge of adulthood. Containing his reminisces of some of those he encountered, both during his over five week long trip from the UK to Australia onboard a "Ten Pound Pom" migrant ship and his honest reflections of those he spent time with after he disembarked in Sydney NSW. Plus his take on the many ports and exotic places he visited and some of the locals he encountered. And having started a new life "Down Under" his thoughts on those he really liked, others he tolerated and only really the one person he grew to hate and in all other instances, those he truly loved along the way during his time in Oz. Before, intent on avoiding the Vietnam Draft Selection for personal but strongly held political reasons. He embarked on the return leg of his Odyssey back to "Blighty" onboard another vessel owned by the same Italian shipping line and his reflections of that thought provoking, heart rendering journey which took him away from the land he loved, in which he had hoped to settle down and make a new life for himself. Australian culture had begun to influence and formulated his personal situation and had shaped his future thinking, as well as his outlook on life. Even in that relatively short period he had changed in so many ways, he was growing up, having been fully enriched beyond all expectation after leaving a small Ayrshire coal mining village as a youngster to discover "The New World." And now he was embarking on yet another truly meaningful adventure which involved him traveling full circle back to the Scots coal mining village from where his adventure first began. That situation not only filled him with trepidation, dread and a lot of heartache, but also with a whole lot of tear filled soul searching, which sometimes still pervades his quiet time reflective moments and his thought process even now that he has reached his senior years. The new and totally innovative beat music sound of the Beatles had a huge influence on him during his time in Oz and it still does to this day. At that time in the early to mid 1960's he was a regular visitor along with his good mate, Londoner Adrian McGill to the subterranean, cavern type cellar, dance club in the Taylor Square area of the city aptly name "Beetle Village" Their regular weekend under legal age consumption of alcohol played an important part in his down-time enjoyment as did his well remembered, utterly mind blowing encounters with many of the female populous of Sydney's thriving metropolis. During the period he was resident down under, he spent that entire time domiciled in the Bunnerong Migrant Hostel in the city suburb of Matraville and he truly enjoyed almost every minute of his time spent there. The beach at Maroubra was only a short distance away, so he and friends spent many happy, memorable times there taking full advantage of the sun, the surf, the the sand. Life was good, life was exciting, life was enlightening and perhaps far more memorable because of the regular and varied female company he encountered and enjoyed. Nearly all of his adventures have been recorded within the pages of this tome, specifically so the reader can hopefully get a feel for the really magical times he encountered in Oz.
