Gordon Sinclair: A Life.and Then Some traces Gordon's life from his school-days in east Toronto through his first clerking jobs in the old Bank of Toronto and Eaton's, his early reporting during the 1920s, and his globe-trotting days during the 1930s and '40s, to his fame as the media spokesman for all those who hated authority. Gordon's natural skills as a storyteller became evident soon after he got a job as cub-reporter at the Toronto Star. But his first big break came when he spent a week "riding the rails" with hobos from southern Ontario to New York state. His stories, full of insight and adventure, seemed to contain just the details that readers wanted to know. Sinclair spent many years travelling and reporting to the Star from around the globe. He wrote books of travel and adventure that sold to wide acclaim and won outstanding reviews. David Annesley studied painting at St Martin's School of Art in London but soon transferred to the field of sculpture. He had early success - his sculptures were chosen for the Young Contemporaries exhibitions in the early 1960s and he won acclaim at the New Generations show in 1965. He had numerous solo exhibitions since and his works feature in the Tate Collection and those of other major galleries. His work is known for his open-form, metal-welded geometric shapes, often inspired by his national service experiences in the RAF or influenced by the American Color Field painter, Kenneth Nolan.
