Includes the Islands of Minorca, Majorca and the northern coast of Africa.

The North East sheet of the Yorkshire map does not seem to exist. Shows towns (with distances from London), parks, canals, rivers, mail-coach roads, turnpikes and other roads. This set shows heavily engraved hills and forests. Each title engraved on a shaded band, crossing a star compass indicator, with engraver's name below.No imprint is given. Sold as set. Lithographed maps on two sides of a single leaf with original hand-colouring, 27 x 34 cms (map size) 31.1 x 37.1 cms (sheet) with a finely-engraved foliated border, margins age-toned, one margin tide-marked at the edge (not affecting the maps), a handsome pair of maps in very good condition. A most attractive pair of late 19th Century maps on two sides of a single leaf: Asia as a whole (polar projection), with Europe and parts of Africa and New Guinea. Scale 1:1000 miles. It includes steamship routes and mileages from London to destinations in Asia: Zhoushan (Chusan) Island, Hong Kong, Manilla, Sarawak, Bombay etc., along with political and geographical details; and on the verso the map covers the regions of Persia (Iran), Arabia (including parts of the Arabian Peninsula), Turkey in Asia (Anatolia), Afghanistan, and Beloochistan (parts of Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan), and marks key settlements, rivers, and geographic features.

Two engraved maps on laid paper each 30.3 x 19.5 cm printed on the one sheet 48 x 60 cm, original fold, attractive hand colour, with related French text on verso, slight toning and spotting to the margins, but the maps in very good condition, preserved in a modern window mount. Important cities and towns, military forts, and landmarks are noted throughout,some of these include San Francisco, Oakland, Stockton, Sacramento, Napa, Mendocino, Eureka, Fort Reading, Fort, Jones, Mount Diablo, Lassens Butte and Shasta Butte. Many of the earliest settlements in the Oregon Territory are identified as well as the young would-be cities of Eugene and Portland. Also included are interesting notations pertinent tothe construction of a railroad. One example that is repeated in the map reads "Heavily timbered ridges separated by immense ravines."Themapincludesseveral trails, routes of the surveying parties,and expeditions of exploration and military reconnaissance such as thatof John C. Fremont and William H. Warner.The middle section of Williamson AND Abbotssurveying expedition (the beginning and end shown in Map No.1) is delineated throughout this map from Camp 28 on the bank of Upper Klamath Lake up to the upper reaches of the Des Chutes River. It is here that the party would split. Abbotwould venturenorth to Fort Dalles on the south bank of the Columbia then backtracking through the Mutton Mountains before heading west through the Cascades to Oregon City. Williamson would go west along the middle fork of the Willamette River then north, traversing the western slopes of the Cascades until he met Abbot in Oregon City.Abbot would complete the journey back south to the California-Oregon border with his last camp (#79) in the Siskiyou Mountains.Condition: These maps are in A condition, professionally flattened and linen-backed for preservation and presentation purposes.
