The central text (the 'Egkomion') is a panegyric written by the Florentine physician and humanist Antonio Benivieni (14431502). The work is a praise of Cosimo de' Medici the Elder, addressed to his grandson Lorenzo the Magnificent. The volume contains a facsimile reproduction (26pp.) of Benivieni's original autograph manuscript, allowing for the analysis of his humanistic cursive script. Benivieni, primarily known as a pioneer of pathological anatomy, composed this work to celebrate the virtues of the Medici, highlighting the link between medicine, humanistic culture, and the political patronage of the Florentine Renaissance. Bernardinum Stagninum, 1538. Per quanto riguarda il "De compositione medicamentorum" di Scribonius si tratta della seconda edizione, nell'originale latino, d'una delle prime farmacopee, scritta nella Roma dell'imperatore Claudio nel 47 d.C., pubblicata a cura del medico e botanico francese Jean Ruel (ca. 1474-1537). Descrive la preparazione e l'uso di 271 farmaci ed è stata una delle fonti standard per quasi tutti i dispensari e le farmacopee successive, fino al XVII secolo. Include la prima descrizione accurata della preparazione dell'oppio, il primo resoconto noto della terapia con elettroshock (utilizzando un pesce siluro, come fonte di scarica elettrica per porre rimedio al mal di testa) e descrive l'assunzione terapeutica del proprio sangue. L'"Examen omnium syroporum del Brasavola (Ferrara, 1500-1550) - qui in prima edizione - tratta della composizione e dei metodi di preparazione degli sciroppi; strutturato come un dialogo tra Brasavola e un vecchio farmacista, il testo è ricco di riferimenti alla tradizione classica e ai metodi impiegati nella preparazione dei farmaci oltre che di indicazioni concrete e ricette.
