Obra rara e muito importante para a bibliografia antoniana, uma amostra do esplendor barroco da oratória religiosa em Portugal no século XVII. Reúne dezoito sermões variados, todos dedicados a Santo António como um tributo às suas virtudes. Estes sermões, considerados por Inocêncio como pouco comuns para a época, destacam-se pela sua originalidade e erudição. António Lopes Cabral (Lisboa, 1634 ? Lisboa, 1698), batizado na Paróquia de São Julião, era filho de Pedro Lopes Cabral e Filipa de Souza. Desde jovem, não só estudou humanidades e a língua latina, como também se destacou na arte da música, tornando-se extremamente talentoso. Devido à sua competência, foi admitido na Capela Real como capelão e cantor ao serviço de D. Afonso VI e D. Pedro II.Foi freire da Ordem de Cristo e ocupou benefícios eclesiásticos nas igrejas de Santa Maria dos Olivais, em Tomar, e de Santa Maria dos Anjos, em Ponte de Lima. Também exerceu o cargo de pregador no Arcebispado de Lisboa, onde a sua eloquência e talento como orador lhe granjearam grande prestígio. Foi membro da Academia dos Singulares, onde recitou orações eruditas e compôs poesias, sendo admirado tanto pelo seu talento poético como pelo seu espírito jocoso, sem cair na trivialidade. Esta academia era uma associação de eruditos e intelectuais em Lisboa, conhecida por promover atividades literárias e culturais durante o século XVII, inspirada pelos ideais renascentistas de promoção do conhecimento e da erudição.Escreveu também algumas traduções de autores italianos. Faleceu com 64 anos e foi sepultado no Claustro de São Francisco, em Lisboa.
