Calligraphic book label of Norman Scarfe (1923 - 2014) distinguished historian and author of Shell Guides (Suffolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire). It states ÕSum Scarfei nec muto dominumÕ (i.e.… ÔI belong to Scarfe, I do not change my master.Õ) Lucy inserted is a note to him signed by Stephen du Sautoy on the headed note paper of the Alastair Press of Bury Saint Edmunds dated 1990 thanking him for the loan of the book. They published 2 works around this time about American forces in East Anglia in the 1940s.Press cutting about this also loosely inserted. Neat name on front endpaper and slight foxing to endpaprs, otherwise very good in somewhat used and chipped, very good minus dust jacket, with a little loss at head of spine. Front panel of jacket in good order showing soldiers driving through a town street (designed by Giles).
