Magazine. 32p. self-wraps, softbound, magazine printed on matte alkaline paper, 12x9 inches, good layout, illustrations in this issue from both photographic and stylish artwork. A very good copy: margins faintly crimped with handling, quite sound, and cleanly and unmarked within. Subjects treated in this issue include Che, Guatemala, and.Eartha Kitt? the very cosmopolitan Kitt was invited to the White House and Ladybird Johnson's presence to discuss (with other women spokespersons) "crime in our streets" - and Kitt suggested that domestic crime might be being megaphoned by US state violence in Vietnam. Kitt's radio airtime was boycotted afterwards. . . Arnoni's editorial policy was "No commercial ads," a principle to which he hewed; amazing MoO lasted as long as it did. Board of Sponsors includes some very big wigs indeed.

Paperback. 4to. Self-cover. 16pp. Very good. Mild bit of edgewear and bit of age toning, else tight and attractive. Nice issue of this "Independent Monthly for an American Alternative Dedicated to the Eradication of All Restrictions on Thought" whose board of sponsors included the likes of Albert Schweitzer and Linus Pauling. It was noted for its leftist leanings and early opposition to the Vietnam War. This issue includes Linus Pauling's "The Dirt Work of 'Clean' A-Bombs," the editor's expose about Nazi officials still holding diplomatic positions, and the poem "A Meditation on the Flag 1862-1962" by noted social protest poet and fine press printer JOHN BEECHER (1904-80) -- whose personal copy this is. His wife, artist Barbara Beecher (born 1925) boldly pencils "MARKED COPY / See Pg 11" near the top of the front wrapper. A typically fiery free verse Beecher production, this poem compares Barbara Fritchie's Civil War flag incident with the political situation of 1962, closing with: "Haul down the stars and stripes! Run up the flag / we really serve -- black, with the skull and bones!" A lovely contributor's copy.
