Paperback. Condizione: Very Good. The Irish Republic has been horrified by the recent crime wave and the brutality of some of the incidents involved. This work provides an insight into the criminal mind - the mind of the murderer, rapist, arsonist or child sex abuser. It also examines in detail the effects such crimes have on the minds of their victims. Composite and fictionalized case histories are used to bring to life the facts about criminal behaviour. Some of the cases outlined pose the following questions: why did a man who murdered his wife say at his trial, "I have killed the only woman I ever loved"; why did one man rape a woman, and expect to go on a date with her the following night; and why did a particular man beat his wife for ten minutes on the morning after their wedding? Art O'Connor's work with criminals and victims reveals the following facts: 95 per cent of all crimes are committed by men; approximately 60 per cent of convicted rapists are intoxicated at the time of the offence; approximately 50 per cent of fathers convicted of incest have alcohol problems; and arsonists get a sexual thrill from fire-setting. The book outlines how a forensic psychiatrist looks at crime issues and how victims and offenders can be helped. It looks at age-old issues, written for the general public, as well as for professionals and volunteers working with offenders and victims of crime. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.…

Unknown publication date. 3rd printing of 1997 edition:- Synopsis: The Sunday Times bestseller. Hailed as his greatest work ever, Stephen Donaldson's best-selling 'Gap' series is rapidly attaining the status of a classic. Now one of the most exhilarating space epics ever told comes to a shattering climax in a thrilling tale of high adventure, powerful emotion and labyrinthine intrigue. As the conflict between humankind and the Amnion aliens heads for crisis, Morn Hyland, cyborg Angus Thermopyle and the survivors on board the crippled starship 'Trumpet' must return from deep space to Earth. Only they can prevent the titanic struggle between UMCP director Warden Dios and Holt Fasner, the corrupt head of the UMC, from precipitating all-out war with the Amnion - and leaving humanity to pay a terrible price. As Dios in Earth's orbit and Morn in deep space both make far-reaching decisions, the Amnion act with swift fury, and suddenly Earth stands threatened with fiery destruction:- Review(s): "Maniacally gripping. The toughest space opera series of recent years, with the most memorable and believable characters anywhere in contemporary SF, finds the author remorselessly turning up the heat under a bunch of players already at boiling point, allegiances and agendas feverishly shifting as their options run out" - Time Out:- (original cost £6.99). For both the Amnion and the UMC Police the immediate capture of the fleeing ship and the secrets it contained was imperative. Paperback: 7" x 4½". Condizione: Very Good: Light signs of wear. 1992 Edition. © 1991: 2nd in the 'Gap' series of books. 1st printing of 1992 edition:- Synopsis: 'The Real Story' had been told - but deep in the realm of 'Forbidden Knowledge' lay greater dangers still. Morn Hyland had survived a terrible ordeal at the hands of one space pirate, only to find herself trapped in the ship of another, surrounded by hostile, unfriendly faces. Nick Succorso had rescued her, but for what purpose? He and his crew were all illegals, and she was a cop - a cop with gap-sickness. Just having her on board would put all their lives at risk. But Nick knew that Morn possessed something that could be of value to them all - and he had every intention of exploiting it. As she struggled to recover from her shattering experiences, Morn would hear increasingly shocking tales of corruption in the UMCP, and even more alarming rumours of a shadowy alien life force - the Amnion - with their all-consuming mutagens. All too soon, on the long and hazardous voyage to forbidden space, the bizarre stories would become horrifying reality. 'Forbidden Knowledge' is the second novel in the epic five-volume 'Gap' series from the bestselling author of the 'Thomas Covenant' books that began with 'The Gap Into Conflict: The Real Story':- Review(s): "Fascinating.
