Edizione originale di questa importante raccolta delle lezioni di chimica docimastica opera dello scienziato piemontese noto per l'invenzione della nitroglicerina. Laureatosi nel 1833 in medicina e chirurgia, inizio' a interessarsi alla chimica grazie allo zio Carlo Raffaello, Generale di artiglieria e direttore del laboratorio chimico dell'arsenale di Torino. Studio' in Francia con Pelouze e Dumas, in seguito, in Germania lavoro' presso il laboratorio di Justus Von Liebig. Tornato in Italia, divenne docente presso la scuola di meccanica e chimica applicata dell'Universita'. Dal 1860 al 1882 ebbe la cattedra presso la R. scuola d'applicazione per gli ingegneri di Torino. Di particolare interesse la parte che, da p. 213, nel descrivere Prodotti delle materie nelle mine, Sobrero si occupa della dinamite e della nitroglicerina. Nel rivendicare a lui la scoperta di questa sostanza, avvenuta nel 1847 e pubblicata negli Atti del congresso di Venezia e negli Atti dell'Accademia delle scienze di Torino nello stesso anno, Sobrero descrive come Nobel ebbe l'idea di dare alla nitroglicerina una consistenza solida e '.prese un privilegio che si fa durare ancora al presente.
