Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book provides a prolific account of the author's time and experiences as a newly immigrated German during the 1870s in New York. His transition from the German countryside to the teeming metropolis is brought to life through detailed and often humorous observations about American society. The author's unique perspective as an outsider allows him to comment on all aspects of life in 19th century America, from its politics and commerce to its culture and cuisine. He both praises, such as the freedom of speech and abundance of opportunity, and critiques, such as the materialism and lack of refinement, American society with equal measure. Far more than a travelogue, this book is a rich historical document that transports the reader to a pivotal time and place. It is a vivid portrait of the immigrant experience, offering insights into the challenges and rewards of starting a new life in a foreign land. Halbleder. Condizione: Gut. Döring, Georg Christian Wilhelm Asmus. Posa. Ein Trauerspiel in fünf Aufzügen. Frankfurt am Main. 1821. XIV, [2], 144, [2] S. Gr.-8°. (ADB). Innendeckel mit Montagespuren, sonst kaum fleckiges, gutes Exemplar. Goedeke IX, 227, 21, 20. ADB V, 347-348. …
