An der Erfindung und dem Erfolg dieses populären Genres waren zahlreiche jüdische Filmschaffende beteiligt, die 1933 aus Nazi-Deutschlan…d fliehen mussten, weil NS-Propagandaminister Goebbels sie mit einem Berufsverbot belegte. Mit ihnen wurde auch die Tonfilmoperette verbannt, die für Goebbels eine Schöpfung der verhassten Weimarer Republik war. Weit über zweitausend jüdische Filmkünstler und-techniker flüchteten aus Nazi-Deutschland und versuchten, ihre Karrieren im europäischen Ausland und in den USA fortzusetzen. Weil sie als Spezialisten des überall populären Musikfilms galten, realisierten die emigrierten Filmschaffenden in ihren Exilländern tatsächlich zahlreiche Musicals, Operetten und Komödien mit Musik. Sie haben das Genre Tonfilmoperette in ihre Exilländer exportiert, weiterentwickelt und verändert. Damit haben sie zum kulturellen Transfer beigetragen und sich dabei in die Filmindustrien ihrer Exilländer integriert. In diesem Buch wird erstmals der Versuch unternommen, den Beitrag der jüdischen Filmexilanten zur Entwicklung des Genres Musikfilm in Europa und den USA von 1933 bis 1950 darzustellen.
