His parish histories very largely described manorial descents, and,as for many years no one else tackled the records of national government with his appilication…, it was long before his descents were bettered; they were borrowed wholesale by his successors. The series of over 60 engravings by Kip form a gallery of the mansions and manor houses of a prosperous county. A superior copy with good margins. Two views with small loss to area of margin, not affecting image, one plate with very small paper-flaw, with almost imperceptible slight loss of engraved surface. Some occasional light foxing, mostly to margins, otherwise a pleasant, clean & tight copy bound in contemporary calf, neatly rebacked with label and re-cornered, gilt, marbled endpapers & engraved armorial bookplate of John Allan Rolls.
