Für die Stadt arbeitete er nebenamtlich als orthopädischer Schularzt. B. erwarb sich über Magdeburg hinaus große Verdienste um die Entwicklung der Fürsorge für Behinderte. 1918 wurde ihm der Professorentitel verliehen. B. leitete 1923 in Magdeburg einen Kongreß der Deutschen Orthopädischen Gesellschaft. Sein Sohn, Dr. med. Bernhard B. (geb. 11.05.1903 Magdeburg, gest. 22.10.1979 Magdeburg), folgte dem Vater als Inhaber der zur Königstraße 68 und später Oststraße 10 verlegten Privatklinik. Er habilitierte sich 1959 an der Medizinischen Akademie Magdeburg für Orthopädie und leitete als Ordinarius seines Faches von 1963 bis 1968 ihre Orthopädische Klinik."
