Hardcover. Condizione: Fair / Good. No Dustjacket. One inch thick. This is a difficult book to describe as it appears to be a bound together set of short plays (some one act plays even) - by the looks of the paper and printing it looks early 19th century. I have photographed all the title pages and uploaded them as photographs.…I can supply pictures of the title pages I didn't have room to upload on this listing. The hardback binding comprises a plain leather(?) spine which is rubbed, scratched and has pieces missing to the top - the spine-junctions are a darker brown which suggests the spine has been sun-faded to a chipped, lighter brown. There is a short piece of scribble to top right of front board. The page-edges are rough-cut and browned and the page-margins are lightly browned but are clean and tidy. Amongst the plays are unrelated contents pages and some reviews of actors and there are rather crudely coloured-in plates.

Written by Augustus Jessopp, an English cleric and writer. Peterborough, c1881. Written by George Ayliffe Poole, an English Anglican cleric and a writer on religion, church architecture and history who strongly advocated the Gothic Revival. Worcester, 1883. Written by Rev. I. Gregory Smith, a British clergyman and writer. With the publisher's catalogue to the rear of each volume. In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spines with the odd mark to the cloth. Small splits in the cloth to the head and tail of the spine resulting in light fraying. Residue from library stickers to the tail of the spines of Norwich and Worcester. Hinges starting but firm to Peterborough volume. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting. Light age toning to the endpapers. Previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown of Peterborough. Good. Not Stated (illustratore). book.

Original chrome yellow cloth with diagonal red title and ticker tape markings. Edges and corners are a bit rubbed, a little grubby, spine joints starting but still holding fine. Interior has a number of sta…mps from the Merchant Marine library, paper toned with some old marks and stains but generally respectable. A couple of pages have old strengthening at the fore-edge. A few of the game pages have been filled in with pencil -- this could be erased but we liked the evidence that someone had played the game in the past. Issued in the Roaring Twenties right before the Great Crash that ushered the Great Depression, this book asks its readers to play the Wall Street game and speculate, giving you information on the market and specific stocks upon which you are expected to trade to win or lose. An interesting relic. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 128 pages.

The book was published the same year as the Wall Street Crash. Very Good, light stain to cloth at upper rear cover, in Good dustjacket, various short closed tears, spine ends chipped half inch at top and full inch at lower, some loss around pencil holder, quarter sized chip at lower rear flap corner.

Scattered pencil marginalia; paper-clip stain to upper margin of title page, still a quite nice example. A r…ather jubilant guide to playing the stock market for the common investor, configured as a "game" in which the reader has inherited $10,000 from an uncle they have never seen, with the caveat that they will inherit the uncle's entire million-dollar estate if they can increase the $10,000 to $15,000 with a week's judicious trading. "The Wall Street Game as it is played in this book, is so simple that anyone can play it without technical knowledge of the market.as in real Wall Street, luck plays a prominent part. But you will have to use common-sense in buying and selling stocks or you will not win the million under your Uncle's will." In what may be the most monumental case of bad timing in publishing history, the book was announced in Publisher's Weekly for October 26, 1929, just two days before the Crash. Originally issued with a black Eagle Mikado pencil, lacking from this copy.
